Cacarbonrbon Calamity? Maybe Not

Many of us now own bikes with carbon frames or components. And unlike steel or aluminum frames that you can back your car over and still ride, wobbly as they may be, carbon will crunch into pieces like a hard pretzel. No amount of hammering out the twists will do because carbon doesn’t bend, it cracks. And even the smallest of cracks are unsafe because there’s no way to predict when that crack will snap, and you better hope it’s not while you’re careening down a hill at 45 mph!

We once thought that when a crack appeared, the frame was toast, destined for the trash heap. But that’s no longer the case. On June 9, Tom Sims of Swamp Ghost Frame Works will be coming to our Membership Meeting to tell us how carbon can be repaired. “Wait” you say? “I don’t have to toss out my carbon frame and pay thousands of dollars to replace it?” That’s right! Repairs can be made to make your bike safe to ride again. Find out the where’s, what’s, and who’s on Thursday, June 9.

And in addition to our program, we’ll have delicious refreshments served up by ???. We need a volunteer to provide the culinary delights that we are so accustomed to! If YOU’RE interested in becoming everyone’s favorite club member that night, let me, Alan Scherl, know!
